A Day in Windy Mykonos – Little Venice

Nitin and I are back and fully recovered from our amazing vacation in Greece.  It was a busy trip, with so much to discover every day. Of the three places Nitin and I visited (Athens, Mykonos and Santorini), Mykonos topped my list as my favourite hot spot in Greece. Known as the party-island, Mykonos is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, and offers the perfect mix between relaxation and partying.

We stayed close to the beach, as that is where we spent our mornings soaking up the sun and gearing up for the busy day ahead. We would rent beach chairs and an umbrella each morning (this is common as they are not property of the resorts), and enjoy a beautiful swim in the sea, and stroll along the beach. The beaches aren’t your typical resort-style ones, so manage your expectations. There were loads of shops and restaurants along the beach, so always plenty to see and do.  Our first morning at the beach I decided to do a little mixing and matching, pairing up two of my favourite Victoria’s Secret bikini pieces.  I rocked my ruffle cheeky bottoms in aqua seychelles with my jeweled bandeau top in white (last year’s collection). I love the light and airy colours of this ensemble, which played in well with the Mykonos vibe. Adding a pop of brightness was my H&M lace dress, which was featured in my April H&M Coachella post. I paired this with my Melissa Heart + Salinas flip flops (now on sale), ankle bracelet from Aldo, and Hibou Surfcity tote (part of my top travel picks). This bow band Panama hat from Express has quickly become my favourite hat of the summer, as it goes with just about anything and transitioned with me from the beach to the town.

After the beach, Nitin and I headed back to our resort to shower and get ready for a day in the town. If you are staying close to the beach you can get to Mykonos town via scooter or bus, as walking would take far too long. The bus comes every 30 minutes and it’s a quick 7 minute ride into town.

During our first day in Mykonos town we did a bit of exploring, checking out the never-ending sea of blue and white, as well as the amazing restaurants. Trying to decide on our favourite souvlaki place was a tough one, but stay tuned for a list of our favourite spots. It was extremely hot during the day, so my Boho All the Way Tunic was the perfect choice, being so lightweight. I accessorized with my Pandora rings, and Om stack bracelets from Tiny Devotions.imageedit_36_3663476768IMG_4627IMG_4631imageedit_33_2116621412IMG_20150713_080048IMG_463420150708_113544

As we made our way over to Little Venice (short walk from Mykonos Town) we stopped by the famous windmills, which were filled with tourists snapping shots and enjoying the scenery. If you’re patient, you can catch some great pics without all the background noise ..timing is key. You get an amazing view of Little Venice from this area, exactly like those too-good-to-be-true images you see online. It really is as beautiful in person, so a definite must-see if you’re in the area. After going picture-crazy, we headed over to Little Venice for more exploring.

I loved all the little restaurants and bars aligning the sea. We would wander through them before eventually ending up in the streets of Little Venice, which were filled with beautiful shops. If you keep walking you eventually end up back in Mykonos Town, as everything connects. After doing some shopping (and eating lots of frozen yogurt …don’t judge), we made our way back to the bars along Little Venice to watch the sunset. Our favourite place to grab a drink was Scarpa Bar, which undoubtedly offers the best pina colado’s in town. We had a perfect view of the sunset from there, and it gave us a chance to rest our tired legs while taking in the scenic views.

Once the sun had gone down for the day Nitin and I headed back to our resort to get ready for the evening. The one thing I love most about Mykonos town is fact you can have dinner at 11:30pm and the restaurants are still buzzing. Ah, Europe!  The town is roaring in the evenings, with countless restaurants, bars and clubs to choose from. The shops are open late which is a bonus, so after our midnight dinner we grabbed drinks at one of the bars in town, and pop in and out of the shops we’d missed during the day. When we finally arrived back at our resort in the early hours of the morning, we got a few hours of rest before starting our next adventure, which you can read more about soon!
