Having a good skincare routine means selecting products that benefit your skin and help you maintain a young, healthy appearance. I love trying new products and when I stumbled upon Kumiko sponges I was quite intrigued by the benefits, and the fact that similar Konjac sponges have taken Japan by storm (let’s be real, Japanese women have amazing skin!) Made with only two ingredients, natural glucomannan and purified water, I couldn’t help but give this bad boy a spin.
Kumiko offers a range of sponges depending on your skin type. The bamboo charcoal Kumiko with activated minerals is great for oily skin (or for those with oily T zones like myself). The sponge helps to remove dirt and oil while naturally balancing pH levels to reduce the overall acidity in the skin. With less acidity means less bacteria, so this sponge is also great for people who tend to breakout because it helps to unclog pores.
BENEFITS OF A KUMIKO SPONGE
- All sponges are natural with no additives, chemicals or fragrances
- 100% biodegradable
- pH balanced
- Gentle, deep cleansing (ideal for sensitive skin)
- Massages skin to stimulate blood flow which helps with new skin cell growth
- Creates a great lather so you don’t need to use as much product
- Great longevity
- Gentle enough to be used on newborns and babies
HOW TO USE A KUMIKO SPONGE
STEP 1 – Rehydrate
When you’re ready to use your sponge, just run it under lukewarm water until it’s soft to touch. Get rid of the excess water by squeezing the sponge between your hands.
STEP 2 – Cleanse
The great thing about this sponge is that you can use it alone, or with your favorite products. I generally use this sponge with my cleanser. I add a small amount of cleanser to the sponge and let the magic happen. You’ll notice that the sponge creates a nice lather, so you’re not using as much product.
STEP 3 – Massage into skin
Massage into the skin in a circular motion to remove impurities.
STEP 4 – Rinse, Dry & Hang
When you are finished with your Kumiko sponge, rinse (even if you don’t use it with product), squeeze gently between hands to remove water and hang on your tap to dry. Skin bacteria is destroyed as the sponge dries.
HOW TO CLEAN A KUMIKO SPONGE?
Being a germaphobe it’s important for me to be able to wash my sponges and make-up brushes regularly. This sponge will last around 2-3 months and can be sterilized by soaking in boiling water for 2 minutes and being hung to air dry.
Another great Konjac sponge is the Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge available at Sephora.
