Charlotte Tilbury
Magic Foundation Review

The road to flawless looking skin is never a smooth one, but Charlotte Tilbury seems to have discovered a little secret in getting you one step closer with her new Magic Foundation. Five years in the making, this hyper-intelligent formula includes mushroom extract to help improve the firmness of skin as well as supercharged Vitamic C (VC-IP) to help protect and energize your skin’s cells and DNA.

I’ve always preferred a light coverage to keep my appearance as natural as possible. After swearing by Make Up For Ever’s HD Foundation for years I decided it was time to shake things up. During a recent visit to Holt Renfrew (Bloor) I had the chance to try out Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation. Available in 15 shades, this weightless, poreless, long-lasting coverage completely transforms your skin while providing a beautiful, radiant glow.

I was a bit skeptical at first because I thought the coverage might be too heavy for me, but the great thing about this foundation is that it’s fairly easy to control. You can layer for fuller coverage or use a small pump of product for a more minimal look. The minimal look I was aiming for with this foundation is still a heavier coverage than I’m used to. I use half a pump of the Magic Foundation and apply it using a synthetic foundation brush. This foundation glides on smooth (it sets quickly) and stays put the entire day. It’s a thicker formula than Make Up For Ever which I’m not overly crazy about, so while I love the glow and near flawless finish I get with the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation I’m not quite ready to part ways with my go-to HD foundation.

After using the Magic Foundation for a few weeks, here is my overview:

PROS

  • Full coverage. I prefer using this foundation for dinners and events as opposed to daily because naturally the coverage is heavier
  • Stays put the entire day without the need to touch-up
  • Evens out skin tone to correct problem areas such as redness, acne, scarring and rosacea
  • Includes SPF 15 to help avoid sun damage
  • Fragrance-free

CONS

  • Texture is quite thick
  • Colour range needs to be wider. I use Shade 7 which is darker than my natural skin colour, but Shade 6 isn’t the right match either
  • Not ideal for those with dry patches as it tends to exaggerate such problem areas
